Almost 30 Texans die every day from traumatic injuries; almost 10,000 each year. Trauma is the leading cause of death in persons aged 1-44 years.

The facts are staggering, but Central Texas has a system in place to help prevent trauma and treat trauma victims. Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center has been verified by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) as meeting the criteria for a Level II Trauma Center.

The Texas Department of Health has also designated Hillcrest as a Major (Level II) Trauma Facility--one of only nine in the state of Texas. Hillcrest works together with emergency medical service providers, physicians, specialists and area hospitals to provide a full continuum of trauma resources to Central Texans. Studies have shown that such coordination of the emergency medical resources can result in a significant decrease in trauma deaths and disability.
