Jamie's Place of Grief Support Group

Jamie’s Place is a safe place where children can go to express their feelings and learn more about coping with the loss of a parent, grandparent, sibling or friend. Since death is not a subject that is often discussed with children, they sometimes have difficulty coping with their feelings after a loved one dies. At Jamie’s Place, children can learn how to deal with their sadness and talk about their fears and concerns that accompany the death of a loved one. Meeting others their age who are going through similar experiences often comforts children. Jamie’s Place grief groups for children are offered free of charge. Grief groups meet on a weekday evening from 6 to 8 pm. Parents and children share a meal and then divide into children and adult groups for age appropriate activities and discussions.
To learn meeting place and day contact the Hillcrest Community Hospice office at 254-202-5150. Jamie’s Place was established in June of 1996 in an effort to better address the needs of children, who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Jamie’s Place offers grief groups at local schools as well as the evening group. Children who participate in Jamie’s Place groups are invited to a weekend campout & workshop in May each year.
